I have a presentation we send out to prospective buyers of our software. First problem. ,avi files do not play on all computers. Presentaton 'hangs' when it comes to the slide. Sometimes it plays the .avi but will not play the .wav file associated with the .avi - other times it plays the .wav and no .avi. Is there settings within versions of the OS I need to address? Prospects may use 98,me,2000 and now xp. The menu links seem to work fine - sometimes on some systems the demo works fine! My thoughts is it might be in the setup of the individual computer. I have an autorun.inf which will run the updated viewer if the prospect doesnot have powerpoint on his system. Any comments would be helpful. I've been searching the web for over a month without success.

Powerpoint is supposed to play avi and wav files independent of the media player.

Here is a direct quote form Microsoft:

If you wish to insert a sound or movie file into your presentation and have PowerPoint control the playback of that file (instead of Media Player), insert the .wav or .avi file using the Movies and Sounds command on the Insert menu.

There may be some settings that may not be right. Although I am not an expert on this, if you would like to send me the presentation, I would take a look at it. (As long as it is not giving away national secrets)

Hi,
I think that maybe the problem with the .avi or .wav files could be to do with codecs used in those files or possibly with the players installed in the various machines. Just my guess though.

I would be glad to send the presentation to those who wish to look at it. I'm really at a loss why this is not working correctly. I do believe it is the lack of software on some of the test machines. I've run it under the viewer - sometimes perfect - sometimes freezing at my slide 9 (avi and wav) combo slide - yet playing all other wave sound effects. Just tried it on xp and it plays the avi and not the.wav music but plays the .wav sound effects. I am willing to send a CD - or whatever. You may email me any details at koservice@earthlink.net or dick@dmasales.com
Appreciate any feedback as this is simply driving me nuts. would like to send this out to prospects. I've even put it together as an htm/explorer type and it is also irratic!
Thanks

It would help if I gave my e-mail address right?

The AVI movie was made using Camtasia - it is a compressed AVI file. Apparantly some systems recognize it, others don't. My additional question is what software is required so ALL systems recognize the compressed video. I will also address this question to Camptasia!
I cn't nderstand why it works on some PC's and not others. I think I am bumping against a Microsoft OS compatability problem.problem

You might want to run tscc.exe with comes with Camtasia on the machines that do not run the ppt.

If that fixes the problem then it's a codecs problem.
