JPEG is better due to smaller file size as BMP files can get very large. Plus with JPEG you can get better quality pictures at times.
I guess what I am saying is, it depends on the picture. If you are using small tiny pics or gallery items them BMP is the way, but if you are using large pics such as Computer Equipment or buildings JPEG is the best way.
I'd recommend PNG graphics over BMPs and JPGs. But what's more important is how many pixels (dots) in your images. See this tutorial for how to avoid over bloated powerpoint files.
