Powerpoint Autolayout

When I try an add a new slide to a powerpoint presentation I get up the New Slide page where I can choose an autolayout. The problem I have is that there should be a 'thumbnail' picture of what each of the autolayouts look like but I don't have them. This makes it very difficult to know what slide you are about to insert.
Also when I first start Powerpoint and get the screen saying Create new presentation and once again there are no images on this page next to the options.

Has anyone got any ideas what might cause this
