A professor sent me a powerpoint presentation that wasn't displaying all of his mathematical equations correctly in powerpoint. The presentation was created on his MAC and the 'problem' computer is a PC. I figured that the problem was the result of some incompatibility between the two platforms or something.

I created a new powerpoint file to see if there was something wrong with the file itself or if it was a program issue. After testing it out, I figured out that the computer doesn't display certain characters correctly, even if the file is created on that computer. To insert the symbols, I used the insert symbol tool (INSERT > SYMBOL, then select sybmol from list).

Any ideas about how to fix this?

Thanks.

I don't think that is the problem - I thought it was at first.

The thing is that the computer doesn't display certain characters correctly, even if the file is created on that computer.

For example, I created a new powerpoint file on the 'problem' computer. To insert symbols, I used the insert symbol tool (INSERT > SYMBOL, then select sybmol from list). Some of them do not display correctly.

Do they print correctly? If so then what font is the symbol from - is it Truetype?

Unfortunately, there isn't a computer connected to the computer b/c it is in an classroom.

I've attached a video of the problem.

I've a little confused on what font is being used. When I click on letters, it says 'arial,' but if I highlight a symbol it says 'MS PGothic.' If I view the same file on my laptop (everything works), the letters are arial and the symbols are arial.

I had looked at they typeface issue and copied over what I thought the corresponding fonts should be, but it didn't seem to help. I just fixed the problem by copying over the entire fonts folder(130+ MB) from my laptop and loading it onto the classroom computer.

Thanks for the help Gavona.

Next time (assuming this is a Truetype font):

You can "Embed TrueType fonts in a document" so that they go with the document. Tools, Options, Save......

MS PGothic is a japanese font (google it). Maybe also suggest that he finds the desired symbol from within a different, more common, font? Mind you it seems to come with Vista.
