Hi guys,

I'm fairly new to using PowerPlay coming from another business intelligence tool. I've been studying this tool and I've come across something unusual.

I made a cube using Excel from a sales database that came with the Cognos installation. The cube displays a summary of products and the total sales that displays the amount 171,576,387.88. When I created a cube from this sales database with transformer then viewed the cube from powerplay the total sales displayed is 171,559,836.00. A difference of 16551.88!!!

Is there something wrong with PowerPlay? I even tried this on Impromptu and results of it were the same with the excel cube that I made.

Try by increasing the precision of your Measure , it s possible that you have rounding problem.

Try with Precision = 2 or 3

to do so : open cube Model, Measure window , Open the measure Property and change the Precision to 2.
If you can not change the precision , change the Storage Type to 64 floating Point , then you ll be able to change the precision.

monsky,
it probably results from accumulated rounding.

Check the precision of your measures (right-click measure and select properties - bottom right of 'general' tab)- I find it needs to be 3 or 4 to ensure the cube totals correspond with data totals with 2 decimal places.

Also, it's good practice to choose a suitable format for the output ('Format' tab, unsurprisingly....), especially if the cubes are being published to the web.

Apologies - I was obviously composing my reply whilst Draoued was posting his.

Thank you you two.

I guess the cube design is made to adapt to different database data types.
