Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how to use powerplays alternate drill-down path to include a fiscal year and calendar year in the same cube. Has anyone done this before?

Also, what other ways have people dealt with a fiscal and calendar year in the same cube?

Thanks for your help,

Todd

We've had to use two separate dimensions. You'll probably have to do the same since the lowest level of you dimension is supposed to match. This will not be the case for Fiscal and Calendar.

Pain is stress leaving the body.

We've used seperate dimensions, but our cognos rep mentioned that we should just use an alternate drill-down path, however he didn't go into any detail. Maybe he was confused?

Thanks for your help,

Todd

Your "rep" often doesn't understand the guts of the tools, or your business. I don't believe alternate drill-down will work for fiscal and calender year.

Would it be acceptable to your users to add a special category of calendar year to a fiscal year dimension?
It would have to be either manually maintained or scripted to change at a certain date.

How would I use a special category for the fiscal year dimension?

Also, wouldn't the lowest dimension level match, since the actual day itself would be the same whether it was on fiscal year or calendar year?

Show the map of the fiscal year dimension. Add in a special category by clicking and dragging from the apex. Term this 'Calendar year'. Now click on the right hand side of the required months and move the cursor to the 'Calendar Year' box prior to releasing the cursor. Do this 12 times and you should have a special category of the calendar year.
I use a script when building the model to ensure that the special category is the last full calendar year, in case I forget to update it in January
