A friend of mine needs some help with a modem problem (?)on her PowerMac G4 10.3.8 computer. We setup her computer for Internet and email (using NetZero ISP) and it runs fine at my house. But when she takes it home and tries to use it, a message "no dial tone" keeps displaying and she can't connect to the Internet at all or use email. Does anyone know of any problems with the Apple Internal 56k v.34 modem or how to fix the problem?

Thanks for your help,
Donna

Is the phone jack that she is using live?

I have about 8 jacks in my home, only 2 actually work... The pairs could be switched on that particular jack.

I would agree with rlibsch... The only thinhg that changed from yoru house to hers was the phone line, probably where the problem is.

Thank you for your replys. We finally got it working. I ended up doing a google search for the "Error 680 no dial tone" message we were getting and turns out there is an option you can disable under "Networks" that allows you to ignore the dial tone. We setup the Internet connection using the Apple Internal Modem v.34 and turned the little dial tone bugger off )

Yeah, it's working now.

Thank you again for your help,
Donna
