I am trying to use an external power supply on an Avaya 9630G IP phone. I am using a working 1151B1 power supply. When I plug in the phone, the power light just blinks. Am I required to use the 1151C power supply?
Any help is appreciated.

you have to use the little power cord that comes with the 9630G, has an ethernet RJ45 on 1 end, with pins 7&8 wired, and the other end is a mini DC power connector that plugs into the bottom of the phone.

This is the only way to use power bricks with the "G" phones.

Either that, or a 802.11af compliant ethernet switch, which has the power sensing circuitry on pair 7&8.

You might try a PoE injector power source if you just have a phone or two to power up. I works great in places like a wiehgt room or pool area.
