I am looking for a rack mount kit for my tower Dell PowerEdge 4400 server. Does anyone know if they ever made such an animal? If so what is the part number? And lastly where can I get one? Does anyone have one to sell?

Dell did make a Rack kit for the PE4400. If you are in the UK you can contact 01536 275 850 (a company called Serversource). You need to order a PE4400 Tower to Rack conversion kit and Rackmount kit. Hope this helps

I got one the middle of last year for this model from Dell. The server case was used for a later model as well, but not sure of which model exactly, and therefore should still be available.

Speak to Dell, and they also have preferred EOL suppliers.

Another thing to be aware of is that to rack mount these servers, you will have to turn them through 90 degrees. As a result of this, the HDD's will rotate onto the flat plane rather than the vertical orientation they have been in up to this point.

As a result of this, we had the barings in one drive let go, and had to have the drive replaced.

Make sure you have a spare drive or a maintenance contract in place before rotating the server.
