Hello,

I've got a PowerEdge 2450 server that I'm testing, and both of the power supply fans seem to constantly speed up and slow down, making kind of a whirring noise (if that's very descriptive). I'm wondering if this is normal, and if not what I can do about making it stop, is it a power problem?

I don't think it's the fans that are at fault, because for the first 20 seconds after I power the system on, the fans behave normally, but then this problem starts. Other than this, the system works fine.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

try upgrading the bios - noisy fans was an issue for dell which they seem to have fixed with bios and/or firmware upgrades

OK,

I tried the BIOS update, and it's still doing the same thing. I'm not sure if these are normal noises for this to be making, but it doesn't sound right. I wouldn't feel right about selling this server without knowing if this is going to cause problems somewhere down the line or not. Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Dan
