I want expert opinions. Is it better to power down or leave on a monitor if it won't be used for 1 hour, two hours, four etc. Where is the consensus crossover point? Assume the electric bill is not as important as the monitor. Has anyone seen a manufacturer's recommendation? TIA for all suggestions.

Leaving a monitor on for a couple hours is quite alright and probably not worth powering it off each time. However, the line I normally draw is over 4 hours of inactivity. There's no point in keeping it on for longer than that. Either set a sleep timer or power it off manually. The wear and tear from turning off/on your monitor is extremely small, and 1-2 times a day is not harmful.

Thank you cdogg. 2 cents is just what I want. I hope to get about $1 worth of opinions, from personal experience, and if possible mfrs. recommendations.

my 2 cents is the same as cdogg, i wouldn't power it down until after 3-4 hours of activity. you can also use the power mode options in the advanced features in display in control panel.

I would power mine off if I were going to be away for more than an hour.
In my opinion, if the electronics aren't running, it is wearing less on the hardware.

Now that you have brought it up, I think I will do some digging to see if I can find any documentation on this.

Cheers! Kimber

Jon & Kimber,
I appreciate your inputs also. Since this is one of the few ways we can impact the life of our investments, it's important to know what we can find out. BTW; I have a similar query in PC Hardware: Hard drive issues.
