Hi folks ;)

My Pismo died from one day to the other :(

There's no startup chime
screen stays black
no backlight
internal fan doesn't spin

...but:
i hear the HD spin up
the battery still gets uncharged/recharged
Num & Caps lock LEDs can be lit up

When trying to reset the PM (via the little reset button on the back) the sleep LED DOESN'T blink...

i also tried removing the keyboard, ram (both slots)
i disconnected the internal backup battery for several hours

i haven't got that special screwdriver(phillips) to take the whole thing apart & to check cables & sockets...could a loose connection result in this behavior ?

If anyone has anymore tricks & hints...or has seen this bevahior...i would love to hear from you

thx in advance

usually the odd screwdriver is a T8 torx

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

I tried connecting my pismo to a PC svga monitor...doesn't light up. Or do I need an adapter (MAC->PC) ?

It is possible that the internal clock battery is dead which would cause the powerbook not to display video. Try to measure the voltage from the clock battery.

Les Gray

lesgray is probably correct about the internal battery. I have encountered he same problem and that is what it was. A typical Mac thing.

i wish it was the battery, but i've measured 5.5 Volt. That's enough, isn' it ?
I'll try to get a Power Management Unit on ebay...If that doesn't help it's probably the processor board... (the processor is correctly seated)

The internal battery should be at least 6.5 volts and 0.0075 amps (7.5mA).
Special warning - watch who you buy a replacement from.
I was charged $50.24 for one package that measured less then the one I removed from my Pismo. The ad led me to believe I was purchasing 28 packages. The one I got had been removed from a used Powerbook.
