I currently have a number of managed systems (p570's) connected to a POWER5 HMC via their HMC1 port. I have recently acquired a secondary HMC (to be connected to the HMC2 port of each managed system) for reasons of redundancy.

Can I get the secondary HMC to see the managed systems without having to physically power each off/on?

Normaly your new hmc will detect online all your services processors without powering them off.

I have not done this, but I would assume you would have to scan for the private ips of the managed systems (through HMC management).

the second HMC you need to assign a different private network
then attach to HMC2 of all your P5's. I just finished doing this. you don not nedd to power anything doen or recycle the p5's

plamb - were you using fixed IP addresses or DHCP?

The HMC that Ranjit and I are adding will be using DCHP (configured on a different subnet as the private network on the existing HMC).

Won't all of our secondary HMC ports have defaulted to 192.168.3.147 as their DHCP request would have timed out on that port?

I am using DHCP on the private network. I set the secoond HMC to use 172.16.0 network all of the P5's (16) picked up the corrct ip on HMC2 port no problems.
