I set up a small Windows 2000 Server for user logons and file storage. I've noticed the power users group is missing. I have all of the operator groups, user, guest, administrator, and domain groups, but no power user group. Can anybody tell me how I can get it back?

Thanks in advance

Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Local Security Policy.
Click Local Policies, and then click User Rights Assignment.
Double-click each item under User Rights Assignments to see whether the item contains the Power Users group. When you find a policy item that contains the Power Users group, click to clear the Power Users check box and then click OK.
Restart the computer.

Power Users is a local group for Win 2000 pro machines. It does not exist in the win 2000 Server.

Thanks igortsin, but I'm afraid that didn't work. Does anybody else have any suggestions? I want to be able to make users members of the Power Users group, but that group doesn't appear.

Power Users are not included in the Windows 2000 Domain built-in or pre-defined groups. They are, however, available as a local group in both W2K Pro and Server.

Here's one option:

In the AD Users and Computers console create a domain group for the users you want to be Power Users. Add the appropriate domain user accounts to that group.

At each workstation go into Computer Management and then into Local Users and Groups. Look in the Groups folder for Power Users. Right click and select properties, then click the add button. A window titled Select Users and Groups will open. Make sure the domain is selected in the Look In drop down box at the top of the window. Select your domain group that contains the domain user accounts you want to be Power Users. Click OK a couple of times and your done (with that workstations). The process needs to be repeated for each where you want these users to be Power Users.

A pain to configure each workstation, but once it's done you can manage changes centrally through membership in the domain group you created in the beginning.

Hope this helps!
