I need to replace a power supply from a computer that has a 20+4 pin connector. I only have a 20 pin connector power supply. This will fit but the last 4 pins will not have anything connected to them. Will this work? What are the last four pins for?
Will it work??? Depends, but usually yes. Check your mainboard manual. The extra pins are for more power, so it is always advised to have a matching 24-pin PSU.
There is a 20-to-24-pin adapter that I have used in the past with mixed results. I would NOT recommending using one of these. Here is the ATX pinout:
Cool. This is exactly what I was looking for. The power supply I have should work. I am ordering one with a 24 pin connection but this one should work for now.
