computer keeps going to blank screen try to reboot and get message "please check signal". Removing plug from back of system and reboot works for a brief time and shuts off again.

check you BIOS power settings too, the bios may be cutting the power without the OS knowing.
Or the OS is using a "power on" code that the montior does not understand (normally Hsync and Vsync signals both together or something)
