My computer i built has been running fine for about the past year. However the other night, it switch itself off, it was like someone has unplugged the mains cable or pulled it out the back.. Anyway i could not switch it back on.... totally dead.
I was not doing anything at the time on the PC, and it has never done anything like this before. I checked to see if it had or was over heating, but as far as i can see this was not the problem, all fans etc are working fine, and as i said this has never happened before, plus the thing wont switch on at all, however i left the thing unplugged for a night and the next day decided to unplug everthing and put it back together... the strange thing is that that PC worked and switched back on and everything worked fine.

I logged back off and shut down. The next time i switch it on it ran for about a minute and switched itself off. It is very strange. I now cant turn it back on. I cant see the problem being software.

Has anyone any ideas about what the problem could be..

Many thanks for peoples help in advance.

Probably it's the power supply but it might be the MOBO. Try replacing the power supply first, it's cheaper.

hey franklin97355 thanks for the post.. will prob do..

If it is not the power supply, then most likely it can be the motherboard.

Whatever you do, be nice to to people who helps you or try their best to make things better for you.

I forgot to add one more thing. Make sure your Power cables did not burn out, and check if it is securely plugged into the power supply and to the power circuit.

I've seen this before quite a few times, in every case it has been a faulty Power Supply.

Sorry..... another question. Someone said to ....

"look at the tall capacitors that are near the CPU socket to see if they are swollen or leaking. "

Why would someone suggest this ??

Many thanks.

I believe it is in reference to a Motherboard (possibly several) that had defective capacitors, They split and leaked as I recall.
