I have checked to display the power meter within the power options in the control panel, but the setting will not stay. I have checked, unchecked, and then checked it again, but after a reboot, the icon is no longer displayed. Any thoughts? System is running WinXP SP1 with the updates as available from Microsoft (probably part of the problem, eh? LOL). The option was working for a while, but then just stopped....I hate Windows sometimes...:)
Thanks,
Heather

What settings have you for "Hide Inactive Icons?

279771 - Description of Notification Area Settings

Have you Systray.exe on your machine?

310578 - Windows System Tray Icons

If not run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and find the key below.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg]
System Key: [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\PowerCfg]

Value Name: CurrentPowerPolicy
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)

Modify the existing value, or create a new string value, called "CurrentPowerPolicy" and set it to a value "1".

Restart Windows for the change to take effect.

linney,
You hit the nail on the head. Actually, its my hubby's laptop and he did find the systray was not running for some reason. For a temp fix he has created a copy of the shortcut for systray into the system startup, he'll then begin looking for a better way to do it...but at least he'll know about how much time is available on the battery. Thanks to you both for the assistance.
