We just purchased a new Dell PowerEdge 4600 tower configuration with redundant power supply, 2 Xeon 2.4gb processors, 1gb SDRam, 2 36gb mirrored drives for our c drive, and 4 36gb drives Raid 5 for data. This server joins 6 others. We have a small UPS that handles the monitors, and our firewall. This plugs into a larger UPS by Best Power Technology, which has AC input voltage of 208 and input service of 240. Each input recepticle is configured for 120. When I plugged the new server into the large UPS, the small one started kicking on every minute indicating there was a momentary power spike. I just plugged the server in to the UPS, I didn't turn it on. I have now unplugged it and the small UPS stopped kicking on. I am very concerned that if I plug the new server back in and turn it on, I could trip breakers or cause power problems. I have emailed Dell tech support but all they did was send me a utility to download to the server and run. I'm reluctant to plug it back in and turn it on. One possible solution is to plug the small UPS directly into the wall outlet but I'm confused why merely plugging a server into a UPS would cause that reaction with another UPS.
