what will be the future of Power builder applications? Heard that many are migrating....Is there any scope for PB developers in bay area,CA? Any idea, guys???
In my opinion, PowerBuilder is the modern-day COBOL or RPG. For business functions, it's just too easy. The DataWindow has been a great asset to the PB community, and now the DataWindow.net is expanding that into the rest of the .NET world. For in-house developments, PB is far easier and cheaper, and from what I've seen is still the more logical choice for small to medium corporations.
Those are just some of my feelings on the topic, but as far as the outlook on the lifespan... I'm at a loss.
Many companies are migrating away from using power builder. The only real job I know of right now is in Chicago, and we are having a terrible time trying to find a consultant to fill the job.
Build a new interface between our internal and PeopleSoft Financials (to be implemented in production September 2008). The work will entail:
1) Writing / testing a one-time conversion program for the allocation data currently stored in the application.
2) Developing / testing / documenting an ongoing program that will run daily to extract the data from this application and create journal entries for GL
3) Modifying / testing reports, data windows, procedures, etc. as necessary to accommodate the format / logic changes
This person must have proven expertise with Oracle 9i and PowerBuilder 8.0 or higher. It would be beneficial for them to have experience with PeopleSoft Financials or a financial background.
We expect the assignment to begin in January and last approximately 8 months.
