I wanted to see if I could get some suggestions on this scenario. We are trying to get 8 POTS lines to go into a Merlin then leave that Merlin to go across a LOS shot as a T1 then break out at another Merlin to 8 Phones. does anyone here know of a way to convert the POTS lines to a T1 using the Merlin switch an have the correct numbers appear at the other end? Thanks

What is "across a LOS shot as a T1"?

Please elaborate, just what are trying o do?

We are trying to get 8 POTS lines to a remote site using a Microwave Line of Site system unfortunately the Microwave equipment can only handle T1. The microwave system basically takes the T1 and converts it to a radio signal then back from a radio signal to T1, so we are trying to convert 8 pots lines to T1 using a Merlin at the main site then send that across the radio link then into another Merlin as a T1 at the remote site for them to be able to have 8 analog lines there. We are doing this because the telephone company will not bring lines to the remote site, because it is basically the middle of no where, and there is no Cell Phone service there. We are currently using satellite phones there and the monthly cost is Astronomical. Hope this helps. Thanks for the reply

Sure. Just network the two PBXs together. I've done pretty much what you're trying to do with microwave, infrared (which is OK until it rains hard) and P2P wireless.

I don't think Avaya supports disconnect supervision properly in the A to D to A conversion that you're talking about, nor do I think you can do it quite the way you've explained it.

Lets say that PBX A has the POTS lines. It's networked to PBX B over a simulated point-to-point T1 with your LOS gear (both PBXs have T1 cards to support this). Network synchronization can get tricky with third party boxes, so do your homework. Next, set up PBX B route tables so that all outbound calls go across the network and grab dialtone through PBX A. I've done this, it's easy and it works. The only issue you have to contend with is 911.

Just another idea, unless you already have all the equipment, check out some used d-4 banks with fxo and fxs cards, there's a bunch of stuff around and fairly cheap, but as Tim said in his reply, there's the 911 issue

I think using 100D modules and networking would be the easiest. As far as the 911 issue is concerned, you might contact the Authority Having Jurisdiction and find out if you can have additional info added the the 911 database for your phone numbers, or set up a separate group of lines for that remote location to use from the network for outgoing and have the 911 db reflect the remote location for those numbers.

Otherwise, if push comes to shove, just give the address of the remote when reporting on a 911 call.
