My other PC can not open any program or application. Can not download any application either. Occasionally the PC re-boots on its own. I can get onto the internet. PC re-boots in safe mode only. Help!
If after the above, I would install and run MalwareByte's Anti-Malware and run that as a 2nd phase cleanup. If you are still having problems launching applications (like installing the program I mentioned), run the following registry repair to fix the running of executables.
Paste in text file, save and rename to .REG Double click to put it in the registry.
Hey guys, thanx. Avira actually auto-burns so this was good as it saved me a step. But I never used it. As it was, the virus stopped preventing opening an application and Spybot SD was already on the PC, which is what I used to remove a hell of alot of stuff.
Yeah, and unless something has changed very recently, I especially wouldn't trust Spybot alone any longer. A few years ago, maybe, but though I'd say then it would get most, still not all.
Since you can now get into your PC, Malwarebytes would probably be the best choice for an install and quick scan. Of course, if there is a real baddie still left, you'll find out real quick, b/c it'll not let you install Malwarebytes.
Also, a worthy download and install is SuperAntispyware FREE Edition. And DrWeb CureIt is a free standalone app - well, there's the bootable CD mentioned by BadBigBen, but you can also just download the executable, and run it without installing. SuperAntispyware will not only scan, but it'll provide a little protection against future threats.
Also, you may want to look at a different AV/Firewall solution. Unless you just want to dish out money, I'd install one of these for the antivirus:
1. Avira Antivir
2. AVG
3. Avast!
For your firewall, I'd go with one of the following:
1. Online Armor
2. Comodo Internet Security
