I have an Epson 3000 postscript printer and a HP 4mv Postscript Laser. I am now running Windows 2000 and I cannot get anything to print to these two printers. I have purchased and installed the new Rip for the Epson for Win2K and have downloaded the software and installed for the HP. I have removed the printers and reinstalled but no luck. Am I missing something regarding printing in Postscript? I also cannot get Adobe Distiller Ver5 to work either when trying to make a PDF page from Quark 5. I have also installed the latest PS driver from Adobe.

Thanks, Barb

Barb,

Nothing specific springs to mind- I know zip about W2K, but here's some thoughts for what they're worth.

Disregarding PostScript specifically, can you print anything to the printers at all, using say the generic text only driver? Even ascii text should still kick out a page. What about trying a different print mechanism: eg lpr or copy in a dos window, just to chech the physical path. If the printers're on your net, can you ping the ip addresses to see if the system still knows about the printers. Do these model printers have flashing lights or some other means of checking if anything's actually getting there?

After all, PostScript is just pure text; it's not like PCL which actually has escape sequences inside and could conceivably mess up the transmission. Text should always get there!

Also, try print-to-file and open the file in an editor and see if the PS looks kosher. Drop that file into Distiller and see if it converts to PDF OK. Jim Brown,
