Can someone suggest an inexpensive b&W laserprinter? One with real postscript. I have seen a lot of older Apple Laserwriters on ebay, but have no idea which one would be a good one or which ones you can still get supplies for. I am using a G3 and want to print separations out of Quark Xpress or InDesign at home etc. As a result I am not certain a postscript emulator would work. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I have been trying out two printers by Brother with mixed results. The current one is a Brother 5050, with PostScript emulation and prints my Quark 4 documents and EPS files with no problem. Problems arise when I try to print other documents (word processing mostly: Word, WordPerfect, AppleWorks). Only one document will print, then I have to reset the printer every time. VERY ANNOYING. Brother tech support has been sympathetic, but they are stumped. One tech even implied I should upgrade my iMac G3. (I've had this printer less than 30 days and I'm going to trade it in for another brand. I guess I got what I paid for -- only $180 with rebate)

i guess my first question is:
what do you consider inexpensive?

i use several different hplaserjet printers.
4si, 5si, and 8150's

the 8150's are great printers, picked up my last one with a high capacity feeder modual for about 1500$

as for true postscript go go with an hp printer. after all they are the creators of postscript.

my bad, seem to get those two mixed up lately.
ps, pcl, metacode....

i also run several xerox production laser printers.
seems that i run more pcl on the xerox's than the hp's, and more ps jobs end up on the hp's than the xerox's.

sorry if i caused any confusion.
