I recently upgraded my Redhat 8.0 to 9.0
(I just upgraded all the rpms, not installed Redhat 9.0)
The postgresql version was changed to 7.3 from 7.2.2
Initially the postgresql service would not start
as a database from the older version existed

So i renamed the old /var/lib/pgsql/data folder
and created a new /var/lib/pgsql/data folder and changed its owner to postgres
The database service started

Now the phppgAdmin wont work
with username and password postgres(or any other)

What do I need to do?

if you've done so, you probably don't care about any data in the server - this way you've lost all the data and users

if you make initdb, after creating the new directory and then createuser, you will get users and working db, but with no data

if you want your old data and don't have backups from dumps, you should install back the old version and do the backup
then restore the backup in the new version

I don't know if I'm clear ;-) but don't know exactly what you've done, and what's your wish
