PostGres and Space Disk

Hi,

I have a database on postgres server, i noticed that i lose space disk just by trying select queries, and when i use VACUUM command, it takes a lot space. i wander if it uses a temporary files without deleting them when the action is finished. if yes, tell me please the name and the place in order to do the clean up

i'll be very thankful if you can help
