Hi,
I have a linux mandrake 8.0 server and I would like to run postfix e-mail on this machine. However, I am having a problem setting it up. I try configuring the master .cf and the main.cf. When I try sending an email to my self the /var/spool/mail directory remains empty. It seems that I have not configured the system properly. If anyone has any suggestions please email me at mozat78@hotmail.com

Thanks for the support

Adrian

I am running postfix and cyrus imap myself, but while configuring postfix I had similar problems. The instructions are a little hard to follow but there are some very good websites for the configuration.

One of the big problems is the domain name and virtual tables, the sites above have some good information.

What version postfix ?
You should be able to leave master.cf as supplied.
What changes did you make to main.cf ?
What error messages are in your log files when you try and send a message ?
More details needed.

Thanks for the help that was given so far. I was not successful. Therefore I have ordered a book entitled postfix by Richard Blum. I hope to make more sense after reading the book. Once again thanks for you help

P.s If anyone has any ideas my postfix version is 20010228. Pleas let me know.

Postfix does not just run by starting the daemon and a few changes to the main.cf.

The magic for me was running newaliases. THEN, i can configure and troubleshoot.
