I have a mail server with the message_size_limit = 104857600 (100Mb). (Don't ask. manager insists he needs these files) However an external mail user reported sending an 11mb file and a deny message was sent back. I am trying to determine what happened if anything at all on our end. I have a few questions.

1. In the statement:
Jul 10 08:41:42 smtp1 postfix/qmgr[1066]: [ID 197553 mail.info] C2DC922CE: from=<john.histlastname@mydomain>, size=12050, nrcpt=1 (queue active)

is the size=statement in kb which would be his ~11mb file.

2. Has anyone seen or know about a size limitation or problem with postfix.

Thanks for any response you can provide. A copy of the mail log pertaining to this message is below: (stripped of any domain or ip information.)

The log is showing that the message was accepted:

"250 Ok: queued as 43830354252"

1)Are you sure this is the correct portion of the log file?

2)Are you sure it wasn't the external user's mail server that rejected the message?

Get a copy of the reject letter that was sent back to the external user and post it here. That should provide a clue.

Thanks for the response. This was resolved but I did not have time to post the results. In the end it turned out to be some behavior from outside our domain. When I queried on the sender I did not see any emails coming to us from him over 284k in size. I was able to send myself 2 files, 1 16MB and another 28MB. I responded back to the user that we were not having a problem as far as I could tell and asked if I could get the bounce message.

All good questions. Thanks for the help.
Nate
