I've setup a fairly basic postfix mail server.
To test it out I've been sending/receiving from my gmail account. I can send from my gmail account and receive it just fine.

But when I try to send from my mail server to my gmail account I get the following in my log:
0C06F14FF85B: to=<username@gmail.com>, relay=none, delay=240, status=deferred (connect to gsmtp183.google.com[64.233.183.27]: Connection timed out)

I get a bunch of those messages. I've check the postfix faq, but I don't think anything there applies to me.

Any ideas? Would the gmail server be denying my email for some reason? Or would I be getting a more descripting log file than the "connection timed out" message?

Thanks.

From your description, it sounds like the problem is either with your server or your ISP. Is your server firewalled? If so, are you allowing port 25 outbound?

Who is your ISP? Are they blocking port 25 outbound? Can you telnet to gsmtp183.google.com 25?
