Ok....just learning and have no idea!! I want to create a table that has a listing of properties. These properties could be sold many times over so they will have a unique ID that represents the case file number. I figured that if I created a separate table called Suburbs and imported all the postcodes in then I could autofill the property addresses. All done except the autofill. I would basically like to select the suburb in the property table and the state and postcode autofill (How does access handle dupe suburbs?) how do you handle primary keys in the suburbs table?

Cheers,

Nicho

Hi,
Your request is rather confusing. I am not sure what "autofill" is, but it sounds like you might want an update query for that. However, your design of this "suburbs" table doesn't sound right, since you are concerned about duplicates. Can you please provide a few more specifics? Here is an example:
"SUBURBS" table
- Postcode
- CaseFileNumber
- Street address 1
- Street address 2
- City

OR, is "SUBURBS" simply a listing of all the communities?

I could also use something like this maybe he was thinking of something like this:

I have an office symbol and phone # for each. I would like to select the office symbol and have the phone # fill in by itself.

I think he need something close to this.

Looking for help check the FAQ's first then do a search then ask. Worked for me.

Hi Petzl -

How about separating the 9-position postal codes into a table called "Addreses". The postal code could be the key and the fields would be StreetAddress; City; State; and, if there is info that is particular to a suburb other than city and state, SuburbID.

Then your Suberb Table would only have one record per suburb and the SuberbID would be unique as the key. (The Suberb Table is unnecessary if the only fields on it are city and state.)

Do not duplicate the address or put anything about Suberb in the Properties table. Just keep the 9-position postal code in the Properties table to link to the Address Table.

Write a SELECT query with the Property Table joined to the Address Table on Postal Code, and the Address Table joined to the Suberb Table on SuberbId. Use this query (instead of the Property Table) as the Record Source for forms and reports.

Hope this answers your questions.
