I am currently running 5.5e, one domain, two post offices, each of which is running on Novell 5.1 server. The post offices are connected via TCP/IP C/S mode only no direct. I have been encountering problems with some internet addresses being undeliverable "some address are undeliverable and have been crossed out" also one user is not receiving internet mail to their alias "550 not a valid mailbox". I am not running internet addressing as this system was upgraded from 5.2 and the naming conventions are such that I would have to completely change all users outside addresses. I have multiple addressing rules set at the domain. Every tid I read states "rebuild" the affected databases. Two Questions...
1. Will this fix the problems?
2. If so and I do this, Why does it say "insure all workstations and notify are closed" if I unload the agents how would that affect the rebuild?
I am one step away from calling Novell, but thought that perhaps in your infinite wisdom you could help this poor admin. Thanks for any help you can give...

First off, you can receive mail on an alias, only on a nickname. Gets confusing. In NWAdmin you will see two tabs, one for alias, the other for nickname. Alias is for out going mail, it will stamp and alternat address to them message when it goes out. You want nickname for incomming mail.

You don't need Internet addresseing with 5.5, but since you upgraded from 5.2 you may have lingering addressing rules causing you a problem.

I don't know if this will work for you....but I would try a top down rebuild....to see if that corrects the problem

Thanks for the input... I still am unclear as to weather or not I have to make sure all users are logged out. As I asked before, what difference would it make if all the agents are unloaded. Thanks again.

Oh, yea you need to have the agents unloaded so you can have exclusive access to the wpdomain.db for domain rebuild and wphost.db for postoffice rebuild. If you have the agents loaded, the rebuild will fail.

When your in client server mode, just unloading the POA will boot the users off the mail system. Brent Schmidt CNE,Network + [atom]
