post fields to https

I have been using tclCurl to access http pages. I am now
needing to post fields to an https page. I get 'unsupported
protocol' when trying to do this. I've read a bit about
openssl and tls. I have not found any good examples though
and find it hard to believe that I would have to have all
the certificate info just to post data. Any advice, examples or links would be greatly appreciated. Also, if there is a better tcl extension to use, I would be open to that as well. Thanks!

If you can't get any of this to work you could
try driving a utility like ssltunnel from within
tcl/expect.
