I'm having trouble with my internet. It appears that after I download a certain amount of websites, I can't connect to any more.

I also can't download any mail nor ftp, yet I can connect IRC servers and MUD servers.

I'm unsure as to whats causing this problem, although I know its not my web connection as the other computers on my home network still have there connections.

Could this be a problem with one of my dll files? I'm using windows 98SE, although will probably get XP soon in the hope that this will cure it :)

Any ideas?

Mike

Hello, mollow.

I would suggest extract fresh copy of wsock32.dll from your original installation CDROM (in precopy1.cab) to replace the existing one. Rename the existing one to .old beforehand just in case.

Also care to eliminate other copies, if any, of wsock32.dll in other locations under c:\windows other than in c:\windows\system. Extra copies of it under c:\windows is known to possibly causing problems.

If the above is not sufficient to resolve the problem, you may find it useful to check out the details in mskb article :

Mike, follow tsuji's instructions,

but please, never install or upgrade to a newer operating system without first fixing you problem.

Have you tried clearing your cache, cookies, and temporary internet files?

Thanks guys, I will check out your advice when I get home from work.

Reghakr, haha I know it's a very blinkered view I was looking at, but sadly I do come from the school of "Give it a good kick if it isn't working". :þ

Yes, I have played around with my cached files, but sadly it made no difference. It's just so vexing how I can still MUD and IRC, the ports they use must not be affected :)

Thanks,

Mike
