Possible to set up margins in AI?

Newbie at AI - Go easy --

I am doing a newsletter--used Indesign but want to setup in AI this time.

I want to set up margins of .20 all around the page (easy enough in Indesign--understand made for that stuff)...

is only way to set up margins is through guides?

I also assume, theres no Master page stuff here

I am afraid you are right, The only way i think you can achieve that is to either create your text as a text box or type and press enter following your guides.

Again Illustrator is not made for text editing like I think you are trying to do. In-design is best for this. That is not to say you can not use illustrator to make a text document. I make my resumes using illustrator. I find there is more control for the eye.

AI is actually just about the worst app you can use for page layout. It's simply not made for it. All the things that are easy to do in ID are much harder in AI, often requiring multiple steps to achieve the same thing and one step in ID.

You can always set guides at the appropriate places, as substitutes for margins, and use them to place various elements like text and pics, but ID does all that and more, with less work.

...many objects in illy can be made into guides, and often the quickest way for example is to draw out a box and with it selected press command/apple + 5...

..or view > guides > make guides...
