I need to search the contents of a PowerPoint file and if any matches are found then provide a hyperlink to the PPT on the slide where the match was found. Is this even possible? I have done a tonne of searching on the subject with no luck.

Thanks for any and all help or suggestions.

Mike

Mike - when you get this solved don't forget to post back and share in some of the details. This could be a nice tool for sure. Someone may drop in that's had this experience.

Thank you for the comments. Adamroof, yes I have looked into the idea of MS Office Automation but it is not reccomended by MS for use in clent/server apps such as in ASP.Net So I am trying to avoid it at all costs.

I did find how to link to an individual slide:

Slides within a presentation can be directly referred using the following scheme:

<filename>#<SlideID>,<SlideIndex>

So for example the following hyperlink lets us jump to a specific slide:

Ref:

Now it is easy enough to index PPT files with MS Index Server however I do not know of a way to extract the SlideID and SlideIndex from it based on the resulting matches for our search term. If I could do this then my problem is solved and we then have a way to link directly to the slide of a presentation where the hit(s) for our search term occurerd.

Anyone know if it is possible to extract this information from a result set from Index Server?

Thanks again,

Mike
