I read apepp's post to a question on changing guides on the pages, but is it possible to set a text frame with 2 columns and move one smaller within the overall frame?

Thanks,
Donna

...the only controls i have found for text frame columns is within the text frame options, i think marcus may have misunderstood your question...

...i've yet to come across a way of making a multi column text frame have different sized columns, whilst maintaining the gutter width or changing the gutter width...

...quark can't do this i think, quark has almost become a swear word round my way... : )

...maybe in CS3???

Andrew

You can drag the Pink margins around.
You could do it in CS, Not sure about CS2, only I can't remember how I did it.

It's also in here (forums) if only the search function was working.

Once search as up then I'll find out...

...i read Donna's question as referring to text frame columns rather than page column guides...

...unlocking column guides is under view > grids & guides, this affects page guides rather than text frames...

Andrew

The way I read it was Donna wants two columns one size and the third another size keeping the gutters the same size... like this...

...yes, different size text boxes is definitely the work around to this...

...text box column settings don't seem, as yet, to have the flexibilty of page column guides...

...maybe in CS3 or 4???

...wouldn't be a bad function as it goes...

Andrew

You can draw a single text box. Then clone that (option click and drag on mac). Move the clone next to original - separated by whatever distance you like (gutter). Link the first box to second. Change width of either box. This will give the same as text box with different column widths.

If desired you can gropu th two boxes once column widths are set. If inteneded to repeat on different pages, make a master.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

Thanks, gents. I was referring to one single text frame as Andrew noticed, not just the page columns. But that will be a handy feature for unique layouts. I just used linked frames and grouped so no others in my area would move separately and get confused.

Thanks,

Donna

...doodler, see the 'Process TGML' link below the message input area, it details image posts here...

...you basically need to point to some web space that can hold the image...

Use the tag to show images from any web server. Be sure to use the entire url to the image you want to use including the "http://"

Note: images larger than 400 pixels wide can cause your thread's page to distort. Please try to keep images posted under this size.

Changing the margin columns also change the text frame.

When you bring in a doc file it creates the text frame around whatever the margins have being set to.

So if you do it like I've shown you on your master page then when you bring in the text, and autoflow it for multipages, then you wouldn't have to change the set up for every page.

I know you said you only wanted 2 coloumns, but I did 3 just to show you.
