I don't know if this handy hint works for other people, but it saved me a lot of trouble.
I was having problems with MSN loading as the default homepage, even though my homepage was set to in internet options and also in the relevant registry areas.
I solved this problem completely by accident.
I have a IE button in my Office toolbar, and therefore didn't see the need for a desktop shortcut, so deleted it. BUT... today I closed down my office bar whilst doing a defrag, and wanted to go on the internet, so instead of restarting office, I went into the start menu and started IE from there. Lo and Behold, my own page loaded up fisrt time. When I started up the office bar I tried it from there and MSN was homepage again.
I don't know why, but at one point, MSN was my homepage, and when I created an Office button, all the internet settings from back then were saved to the version that I loaded from the bar. So now I don't use IE from the toolbar and everything seems to be fine.
Hooray!!!!
