All right. Here’s what I have.

I am working on a desktop that has an error beep of a possible display adapter problem, which when the tower is turned on nothing appears over the monitor. So I went and replaced the AGP video card with one known to work and that didn't solve it, so I tried a different monitor as a long shot, but still not the answer. And to make things more interesting, if restarted using the towers restart button repeatedly you can sometimes get it to by pass the self test and it will work just like it should.

Any answers, ideas, or suggestions would be very helpful

Thanks

I'd check the power supply, memory, and CPU. If all those don't fix the problem try replacing the MB.

try re-setting your bios. There's a jumper next to the battery that will enable you to do this. Also, you can just take out the battery and then put it back in. Does the same thing. Whe you boot up again, you need to go into the bios and load the optimal defaults, and reset the time. Consult your motherbaord handbook and make sure you are well grounded and that your PC is un-plugged from the outlet.

Try a PCI graphics card to see if you get video that way. If it works, then you probably have a bad AGP slot.

Out of curiosity, what is the brand and model of the mb you're using?

In my limited experience, 80-90% of all problems brought to my attention can be attributed to PEBCAK...the other 10-20% can be attributed to MS!

I'd reload the BIOS and if that doesen't work, replace the motherboard. It's almost certainly a problem with the motherboard slot as you say that you are getting the display intermittently when you try pressing the reset switch.
