My work involves alot of digital photography, therefore the thumbnail option in folders is actually a necessity for me. Out of the blue....they stoped working, and now I get this message........
Script Error:
Line 103
Char 13
"WIAMGR.Devices Length" is null or not a object
Code 0
URL file//c://windows/web/imgview.htt
I ran the code that reloads the htt files , but it did no good. I tried to just remove that line for the file, no good. I tried to change wia to win, no good.
Anyone got any ideas? I need my thumbnail views back!

This seems like a good place to start:
Internet Explorer Script Error Message When You Open the My Pictures Folder

When you open the My Pictures folder, you may receive an Internet Explorer script error message. This may also occur when you open the My Pictures folder in the ImgView.htt file or when you open the My Network Places folder in the NetHood.htt file.

or if not there try

Thank you for the help.....unfortunately it is not the help that I need for this problem. I had already seen both of those solutions from searching google, but neither applies to this. I am not running Tweak program. The error reads as being a Internet Explorer Script Error. I had some one email me a copy of the imgview.htt file today, and I downloaded it making it over write the one already there.....still no good. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Found this as possible solution on another forum
Poster was Newgrl..much respected there..

Turn off your antivirus, firewall, and any other 3rd party utilities.
Turn off Active desktop and Web view folders.
To do this:
Double click on My computer.
At the top, click on Tools>>Folder options.
Under active desktop put a dot in Use Windows Classic Desktop.
Under Web View put a dot in Use Windows Classic folders.
Apply>>ok.
Go down to start>>run.
In the little box type in:
regsvr32 webvw.dll

This will reextract and reregister the following files:
Brfcase.htt
Classic.htt
Controlp.htt
Default.htt
Deskmovr.htt
Dialup.htt
Folder.htt
Fsresult.htt
Imgview.htt
Nethood.htt
Printers.htt
Recycle.htt
Safemode.htt
Schedule.htt
Standard.htt
Starter.htt
Sysroot.htt

Once finished, reboot.

When you are back up, you can use folder options to turn back on Active Desktop and Web View.

See if you are still getting the error message.

Sorry that fix didn't work. Obviously you have searched the web diligently, so I won't repeat that excercise. When I upgraded to IE5.5SP2 I encountered numerous scripting errors. Since assisted support was offered "free" I accepted and can pass on what MS Tech's advised.

Downloaded and installed latest scripting engine. The download link is internally located in the following article.
How to Troubleshoot Script Errors in Internet Explorer

Used repair function for IE5.5, Add/Remove programs, "repair" option, and reset to default condition.

I will keep on the lookout as I surf, and if you have not solved your problem I will post back.. Hopefully one of the members can reconcile this issue.

Perhaps, you could recall and post some events immediately prior to this error appearing, and of course which browser you are using with ME.

In the meantime, since "WIAMGR" seems so elusive a term, Google cannot find it...would a HOUSECALL seem prudent?

Good Luck

Hi again,
I am on windows ME with explorer 5.5, but it does not have that explorer repair tool option. I saw that suggestion this morning and tried to find the repair tool on my pc.......but I dont see it anywhere. I went to control panel, add/remove programs.....do not even see explorer listed there.
When you speak of Housecall, are you speaking of the online anti virus program?
Also, when I go to the site you listed for downloading the script engine, there is not one listed for ME. I see the one for 98,2000 and NT, but nothing listed for ME. Any suggestions?

Pose...to resolve abscence of Explorer in Add\Remove section...

Add\Remove Programs Tool May Not Work After Installing Internet Explorer 5.5 on Windows 2000

RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior reinstall Internet Explorer 5.5.
=================================

In answer to what may be available for Windows Me

Microsoft Windows Script 5.5

For use with Explorer 5.5
=================================

Suggested upgrade if you are going to reinstall MWS then why not..? (5.6 instead of 5.5)

Microsoft Windows Script 5.6

Right Hand Side of Page
Download for Windows 98,Me.NT 4.0

In regards to HOUSECALL, yes to answer error reference to an unidentifiable OBJECT/FILE or whatever..

Having suffered through a virus infection myself, and having the unpleasant experience of trying to aid others rid themselves of viri?, I have taken note of some sage advice being offered by members of this forum which I will paraphrase. There probably isn't ONE antivirus scan which is cabable of identifying ALL known manifestations of infection. For that reason I don't rely one any one detector.

Hope this helps a bit...

This message is to thank smitee for the advice on November 4th. It "fixed" my similar problem with Windows Me's My Network Places. However, the only thing is I can't have the folder option for Web View enabled. If I do, the icons "Entire Network", etc. will not appear.
I don't want to get anyone's hopes up, but I did get this problem resolved before and everything seemed fine until I booted up this morning, trying to transfer a photo file from my desktop to my laptop. The only problem is, I didn't document the procedure which involved alot of Google searching to say the least. I'm trying hard to figure it out again.
I'm currently runing Windows ME; Internet Explorer 6.0.2600...; Norton Antivirus 8.00.58 and a USB-to-USB Network Bridge Adaptor with a driver supplied by Prolific Technology Inc.
Again, I hope everyone continues to resolve this minor, but very frustrating issue. I will continue to try and retrace my steps on how I "patched" this problem before.

Hi pose.
I am having exact same problem as you do. I am not sure if this was caused by virus. I had to kill couple of virus with nortorn antivirus program when I was searching website. After that my picture folder does not work and get the same error message. It doesn't recognize my digital camera now.
Let me know if you fould out the solution.
I will as well do the same.

This seems kind of voodoo but I had the same problem and it solved it. If you are using TweakUI, change the first icon on your desktop from My Computer back to My Documents. Don't ask me, I just work here.
let me know at yajure@canada.com if it worked for you.

Cheers,
Edgar

Many thanks to Smitee for his Nov 4 contribution from "Newgrl". I had the exact same problem, was not running Tweak UI, ect. Performing the recommended fix has worked thusfar. Thank goodness! My computer company tech support was ready to have me wipe my hard drive, AGAIN...Happy New Year! Fear Not!
