I am having problems booting, the last 4 or five times i have tried i had problems. the first two i got to right before the windows load screen (running xp) instead of that it brought a black screen that says something about nvidia boot device, doesnt go anywhere and restrats after a few seconds. the next time it booted fine, ran for about 3 minutes and restarted itself. Since then i have only gotten the boot device thing. I was wondering if there could be somehing wrong with a) my bios setting (my brother was doing something in there the last time it worked), b) windows (i was getting some odd error messages on start up the last couple of times) or c) the hard drive is shot. Thanks for any help

More info about your setup would be helpful ie:

motherboard
video card
(s)ata and/or (p)ata Harddrive(s)
ram
Operating System (XPhome or Pro)

Using your "nvidia boot device error" I googled and found the following:

this link deals with an Nvidia Raid setup!

If you do not have a raid setup then your brother may have initiated one and that could be the source of your error.

However, suppling more info would help me or others to identify your problem and provide a solution.

Cheers

The odd error messages, can you tell us what they are?
Until they get this repaired for you, best to write down any messages you get and submit them here. It really helps a lot to know what the error messages say.

If your bother was messing with the bios then try booting up and tapping on the "del" key at it boots. This will get you into the bios, usually, it does vary but del is usually the key. Once at the bios you will find a setting that will say something like "standard settings or minimum settings, something to that effect, enable that setting and save and exit the bios. You cant just exit, you must save and exit. Then you may be in luck and your computer may boot to windows.
