Hi All

I'm a networking tech.

I've got an interview coming up where they want POS support experience????

This is confusing me coz any clients we've supported - the POS has been part of their accounting package and the problems are dealt with by their support.

Anybody have any idea what they're talking about?

Depends on the company and what they do. They may be a POS provider or a company that supports their own POS systems. Most companies that support POS prefer experience in the field as support.

Thanks - still a little confused. What I was getting at is that most errors are specific to the equipment and software they are using. I didn't think there was generic troubleshooting steps for POS systems - if there are I'd love to know.

Outside of basic hardware, networking and Windows there are not consistant troubleshooting steps from one POS to another when it comes to all failures. There are however similarities. The learning curve is much shorter for any POS system if you have a basic mastery of another particularly in database building and the ability to communicate with the end user based on their experiences ans needs.

Thanks - some of the accounting providers have POS training. I'll follow that up if this proceeds further.

All that means is, are you use to not having a life, carrying a pager all the time, working late, and listening to customers gripe about how they hate computers and how much easier things were before technology. [wink]
