POS device software - change management

Please provide your response regarding "POS device software change management system"
Looking for a mechanism / control which can act when POS device software is changed. Is there a control or a way which reports any change to the POS device software.

There are many apps out there that can alert to file changes, and some of them are not that expensive. Do a search for, "file monitoring", and you should come up with several.


We wrote our own app that runs as a service and notices any IO changes to specific directories. An alert is created by creating a csv file that is polled during nightly polling.

Any polled information is added to a database that records any changes. If changes happen, an email alert is also generated with details of the file change (Name, time, date, location) so we can investigate or determine if the change was expected.

I use the free version of Logmein (logmein.com) for remote access to my micros stores.... I beleive the paid version has a system monitor that has some pretty extensive information. If you install the Free version you will get the full version for a trial period where you can check it our and see if it gives you what you are looking for. I don't remember what all it tracks but might be worth checking out.

i use vigilix for monitoring all of my sites.

Nice product... you can set event notifications based on conditions such as registry changes, thumb drive inserts, programs installs, micros version changes (im not sure which product you are running) and other alerts.
