POS API error - cannot apply payment

Using Eigen wireless handhelds. Can take payment, but cannot apply payment or close checks.

Errors in log:

Mon Feb 26 17:13:39 2024 | MICROSPOS | POSAPI | 0 | Attempting To Add Tmed record seq 10 Tmed Item VISA |
Mon Feb 26 17:13:39 2024 | MICROSPOS | POSAPI | 0 | CTransactionServices::AddToExistingCheckEx failed with error C701043D, TTE = 859 |

It's a site upgraded from 5.4 to 5.7.6

I had a similar issue about 2 years ago ( But the cause is different this time. Any help is greatly appreciated!
