Ok, I'm a newbie, kinda-sorta, for the second time around, administering a FreeBSD 4.6 Webserver (hosted at my ISP --- it's a Virtual Private Server) and I've set up an older PC in the office to emulate the environment so I can learn more, test, etc without affecting my "live" website.

Anyway, I've been learning about ports, packages and bundles and trying to install/upgrade them.

First thing I found was NO /usr/ports/ directory on my live website -- and using /stand/install and trying to add the ports doesn't work! grrrrrrrrrrrr. Then I tried to figure out the CVS way to install the ports on my website server but am totally lost. Are there any good white papers that can help me through that?

Anyway, I have /usr/ports/ on my test FreeBSD box and want to install MySQL --- I keep getting dependency errors and can't get a package or port install complete for either the client or the server. HELP? How can I get past this. Is there a MySQL bundle out there?

Thanks for any newbie help!

Hi,

Before you install mysql from port, I suggest your keep your port up to date by running cvs. Details at http: By default freebsd port will handle all dependencies.

You can install port manually from the CD. Its only a tar file. Just tar it to /usr.

Google.com should give your more result.
