Ports needed for NMC to manage NW server?

I believe this is a firewall issue, but need to make sure.

I currently have a mix of NW 7.2.2 and NW 7.3.3 all running on Windows 2000 or 2003. I have 1 site that is running NW 7.2.2 and I cannot connect to it using the NMC. I am able to add it to the Enterprise list and it makes an attempt to connect, but fails with "Unable to connect to server."

I have added the correct users and system accounts to the Administrators field of the 7.2.2 server.

Could this be a firewall issue? What ports need to be opened in a firewall so that I can manage this remote server?

I would like to upgrade this to 7.3.3 then 7.4.1, but I need to make sure all connections are correct first.

Hi,

1st, I'm not sure if You can connect from the 7.3.3 management console towards a 7.2.2 Server.

2nd, based on the fact that Your nmc-Server (7.3.3) is located on one side of the firewall and the Networker server to be managed is located on the other side of the Wall, it is not supported by EMC to connect through the firewall. You have to open in generall all ports needed for a client-Server Connection and this amount and range of ports is depending on Your environmant. (number of devices, number of Storage-Nodes...)

Because the documentation is misunderstandable, EMC changes the description:
This was found in the Networker 73SP4 Release Notes:
Page 70:

"Remove this paragraph on page 838:
3. Because the Console server computer must also be a NetWorker client, it must back up to a NetWorker server. The NetWorker server should be behind the same firewall as the Console server. The ports that need to be opened are
described under.

Replace the preceding paragraph with the following:

4. Because the Console server host is also a NetWorker client, it must back up to a NetWorker server. The NetWorker server should be behind the same firewall as the Console server. For information about the ports that need to be open,
refer to Determining the Minimum Number of Service Ports Required on page 830."

I can confirm we are using a 7.4 Management Console and connecting to 7.2.1 NetWorker Servers without any issues,

so connecting from the 7.3.3 management console towards a 7.2.2 Server should not be a problem.
