The Avaya Partner system we have at one of our off-site locations has 2 ports which seem to have stopped working properly.

When I plug in any 18D phone even directly into that port, it does not enable the phone. No dial tone or lights, etc. However, if I plug in my Med-Pat XL88Q phone to the same port, I get a dial tone with it. There's no maintenance contract on this system, I never received any training on it and am a loss. Does anyone know what might cause these ports to stop working properly?

I would 1st try to power down system and reseat module and power back up and retest

I don't have any type of backup for the system, and no knowledge on how to reprogram these ports if that takes things down. Can I do this without fear of the system not coming back up?

have a little faith we are only talking about 2 bad ports. It will come back up

Well, with sweat dripping down my face and sweaty palms, I went ahead and reseated the cards and BAM! I thank you very much joe2938!

Glad it worked out for you, remember no pain no gain!

You probably have 206 modules that are pretty old. On those, if the "data" pair got shorted, the port would stop working for a multiline set, but still work for a single line. A power cycle will bring them back, except the danger is that the processor has a dead battery and the power cycle will wipe out the programming. An easier way is the System Reset - Save All, from Ext. 10 Feature 00, Left Intercom Twice, #728. The system will restart, any calls in progress will be dropped, but most likely the ports will start working again.

I'll remember that for the future. Sadly, in this case that wasn't an option. Ext. 10 was one of the two that had gone dead.
