With the BCM's being end of life we're looking at some other solutions for PBX's. Does anyone have any experience with the Citel devices and Nortel phones?
Make your life easy! Go with the EMetroTel box. I believe Citel devices are boxes that you connect to your network to interface with an Asterisk system.
The Emetro has done all that for you. For Nortel digital phones it uses the BCM50 converted to a gateway by simply replacing the hard drive with one of their SSD drives. You can turn it back into a BCM50 anytime you want by just re-installing the hard drive.
They pitched something more involved and more expensive than we're looking for. We're looking for something that is can do basic local functions (park, page, internal calls) with Cisco doing the SIP trunking.
EMetroTel emulate the BCM50 as simple or complicated as you need. Like the BCM - use the features you need. Just because AVAYA calls it end of life, it may be good to look for something to move to but there is still a lot of support out there for BCM's
The EMetroTel boxes do a lot more than just emulate the BCM50! Do your homework Splic3d.
There is another Tek-Tips user that is as impressed with this system as I am. He goes by the handle UCXGuy. If you want to see this sytem in action, he has a bunch of videos posted on YouTube. Google him and have a look. A picture is worth a 1000 words! Best PBX I've seen come along since the old ROLM systems!
Yes I know, but it appears (with what I have read) to be simpler the a lot of others that I have seen, just that you don't have to make it more complicated than you have to. I wasn't dissing it, I like what I have seen with E's system, We are currently working with them a prospective supplier.
I'm an "old Nortel tech, maybe to D old but just love to see something for our customer to fall to instead of just fork trucking out a system to something else.
