portal? One name with many items attached

I have a database and have people who have more than one check attached to them, instead of having duplicate names, how can i have i instance of that persons name, and a box of some sort with all their checks in them, this would make it easiser to update, address, and other personal information. I would have to make sure i can select each check to change status, paid, etc.. I'm thinking a portal is necessary, not too familiar with these

ur thinking good
if u just need a "report" style or a summry then a...that is what u will do (layout--new-->)...but I belive u would like to have a "form" style access to this file and change the values while u look at them, right?
then u need a portal in Worker file to Checks file
