I have 3 HP ProCurves 1 x 2524 and 2x 2324 the are connected together using the gigabit stacking modules and work just fine. When I purchased these 4 years ago I was under the impression that this set up would enable me to manage all 3 because at least one of the switches is a managed switched.
The 2324's are unmanaged and the 2524 is managed and has an IP address assigned, therefore I can access the 2524 through the web browser, telnet and HP proCurve manager.

When I access the 2524 through the web browser I presume change the configuration of the stacking to commander however when i do this I get an SNMP error, I cant find a setting for this elswhere, perhaps this needs to be done through the console.
The main reason I need to properly configure these switches is because I am running some new software called websense a web filter and protocol filter application, the web filter is working fine, all HTTP requests are forwarded to the server. To be able to filter on protocols i.e. FTP, POP3 etc The server runs a network agent that checks the network for these protocols however it cannot do it when it is connected to a switch. In the instructions it says you have to enable port spanning. I have enabled the 2524 STP but this hasn't made any difference.
Any suggestions if your not bored by reading this would be great!!
Kind Regards
