Hi everybody,

The port conncected between the switch and the call manager must be in trunk mode?

Thank you.

The CallManager must be in the VLAN data?

The CallManager must be in the VLAN data?

It's an IP host it can be anywhere as long as you have IP connectivity to it.....

Voice & Data VLAN's are used at the User Access Layer so IP Phones can be connected to the switches directly and PC's can be piggy-backed off the IP Phones. The IP Phone will be in the Voice VLAN and the PC will be in the Data VLAN. This isn't just an aesthetics thing but a good practise since it allows you to identify which traffic is your Voice and which is Data through the source IP address. This makes things such as QoS easier.....

and they have different DHCP scopes. the voice vlan must have OPTION 150 added which is the ip of the CCM TFTP server.

you can also deny certian ports phone vlan access and certain ports data vlan access if neccessary

Thank you for your answers.
I have another question:
The messaging server can be in the voice VLAN?

The messaging server can be in the voice VLAN?

Again it's an IP Host it can be on the other side of the planet as far as your hosts are concerned. The main point here is if it's an IP host and you can route packets to/from it, it doesn't matter where it is.....

If it's not an IP host and it's connected via something like a QSIG link then it must be near to a Voice Gateway since the cabling distances are an issue. A voice gateway is just a router with DSP resources and traditional voice interfaces such as G.703 or even ISDN-BRI ports. However the voice gateway can still be located anywhere as long as you have IP connectivity.
